Soft Lenses: Use a multi-purpose or hydrogen peroxide solution specifically labelled, including silicone hydrogel lenses when applicable. Biotrue multi-purpose solutions and CLEAR CARE PLUS are examples, but their directions and required soaking procedures are different.

Rigid gas-permeable lenses: Choose a solution specifically formulated for rigid gas-permeable lenses. Boston Simplus, for example, cleans, disinfects, conditions and removes protein from gas-permeable lenses.

Scleral lenses: Scleral lenses may require both a compatible cleaning and disinfection system and a sterile, preservative-free saline for filling the lens before insertion. LacriPure is intended for rinsing and filling scleral lenses, but it does not replace the required disinfection step.

Multi-purpose solutions combine several steps—typically cleaning, rinsing, disinfecting and storing—in one formula.

Hydrogen peroxide systems provide powerful cleaning and disinfection but require a specialized case and a complete neutralization period before the lenses can be worn.

Saline can be used to rinse compatible lenses or fill scleral lenses, but it does not clean or disinfect them. Reusable lenses must first be disinfected using an appropriate lens-care system.

The case contains a neutralizing component—such as the platinum disc used by CLEAR CARE—that converts hydrogen peroxide into a gentle saline solution. A regular contact lens case cannot perform this neutralization.
